Did you know that, within the UK, Northern Ireland has the least woodland cover at 7%, and that the UK is one of the least wooded places in Europe?

Forest cover in the UK is just 13% compared to a European average of 37%.

A Forestry Commission study in Tyneside found that being within 500m of deciduous trees added 8% to property values, and, perhaps more importantly, modelling around the river Parrett in south-west England found that floodplain woodland could increase flood storage by 71%.

Trees are nature’s air and water purifiers, and they need our help. So, if you are part of a local community group or want to plant with your neighbours, the Woodland Trust have a tree pack for you.  Click on http://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/plant-trees/in-your-community/ – it’s easy, it won’t cost you anything and it’s a great way to inspire the whole family and meet your neighbours.
