We appreciate that dedicated people run community groups and organisations, and many of them are volunteers, therefore North Down Community Network are committed to supporting community groups and organisations in a range of ways to best meet needs and priorities.
The Peripatetic Community Development Worker, Mark Kent, and other staff in NDCN are available to offer services such as:
Community Practitioners Forum
Here in NDCN, we are committed to doing things better, preparing to respond positively to change and to collaborate as much as possible. Genuine partnership is essential for this.
As resources across the Community Voluntary Sector continue to be stretched, we celebrate the dedicated people who are working hard to continue to make important and positive changes in their communities and/or areas of interest. One of the strongest examples of shared learning and working in partnership is the Community Practitioners Forum, which is facilitated by North Down Community Network.
Each month representatives from some of the larger residential estates/areas from across North Down meet together to collaborate and support each other. The following organisations are involved:
- Bloomfield Community Association
- Breezemount Community Association
- Clandeboye Village Community Association
- Conlig Regeneration Group
- Rathgill Community Association
- Whitehill Community Association
Training and Funding Support
There are a range of training opportunities for Community groups and organisations to avail of at NDCN, they include:
- Good Governance
- Management Committee Training
- Taking the Fear out of Finances – basic finance procedures
- Community Policies & Procedures
- Strategy Planning
Training can be provided on a one-to-one basis with committees or small groups, as well as at an individual level if that works best. Also, if there are any training needs not mentioned, then please just get in touch and we will work with you to tailor a programme to meet your needs.
Fundraising is one of the most challenging areas of activity for groups and organisations. NDCN regularly share information about funding grants and opportunities, as well as provide one-to-one and small group sessions to support in completing applications.
Community Group Health Checks
Often Management Committees and volunteers are so busy arranging events and supporting residents/members that it can be difficult to take the time to review their organisation’s policies, procedures and services to ensure everything is up to date or effectively plan for the future.
North Down Community Network can help. We can visit with your group and do a ‘health check’ which will informally take you through a process to get a sense of what areas of your group/organisation are working well, and what other areas could benefit from some extra support – which we can help with too.
So if you are considering how to better support volunteers, how to train your committee or how to ensure your policies and procedures are up to date, then why not get in touch and we will get a ‘health check’ organised.
We appreciate that Community people are best placed to determine what makes a community event a great one! But sometimes, an extra set of hands or some guidance about: risk assessment, health and safety or some support with promoting the event can be helpful. North Down Community Network can assist. If you would like a checklist for your event, a risk assessment template, or your event poster sent around our contact list, etc, then don’t hesitate to get in touch and we will be happy to help.
