Dear Consultee

Ards and North Down Borough Council – Draft Disability Action Plan

Under Section 49a of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (as amended by the Disability Discrimination (Northern Ireland) Order 2006), public authorities when carrying out their functions must have due regard to the need to:

  • promote positive attitudes towards disabled people; and
  • encourage participation by disabled people in public life.

The two duties are collectively referred to as ‘the disability duties’. The disability duties came into effect on 1 January 2007.

The Equality Commission requires that a Disability Action Plan (DAP) detailing positive action measures, performance indicators and targets with a timetable for completion should be submitted as an integral part of the Council’s Disability Action Plan.

This draft action plan may be accessed via the Council website www.ardsandnorthdown.gov.uk  and paper copies will be made available on request.

To encourage participation in this consultation I am willing to facilitate meetings on request at venues and times to accommodate the needs of those participating. Information will be made available in accessible formats or in minority languages on request.

Should you require any further assistance do not hesitate to contact me:
