Rural Community Network will be holding a Community Relations Week event on Thursday 19th June from 10am to 1pm entitled “United Communities – looking Beyond Belfast”. This community engagement event willtake place in partnership with the Community Relations Council, at Lough Neagh Discovery Centre, Oxford Island, Craigavon. Rural dwellers, rural community groups, rural young people and rural practitioners are welcome to attend.
The focus of the conference will be to raise awareness of the OFMDFM strategy “Together Building a United Community” and to discuss community/good relations topics/issues from a rural perspective. Participants will receive an update on what has been implemented to date across the 4 priority areas (children and young people, shared community, safe community and cultural expression), hear from rural models of best practice where good/community relations issues have or are being addressed and engage in workshops relating reality to policy.
There will also be a fringe event running at the same time for young adults aged 16 – 25 years to engage particularly with the United Youth team.
Peter Osborne, chair of CRC will be in attendance along with representatives from OFMDFM and DEL to listen to and engage with those present in relation to the strategy.
RCN would encourage as many communities and young people from across rural Northern Ireland to register for this event, to ensure the rural voice of community/good relations is not missed.
