What has Assisi Animal Sanctuary got to do with DICE?

Every year the young people attending the DICE Project support their local community by organising events for their chosen charity or group. This summer they wanted to help raise money for Assisi Animal Sanctuary. Assisi is a registered charity that helps rescue abandoned dogs from Council pounds all over Northern Ireland. The dogs they save are treated by local vets to ensure they are fit to travel on their “Chance of a lifetime” journey. Twice a week, Assisi transports 20 healthy dogs by overnight ferry to England in a specially fitted out, fully air conditioned ambulance. They are cared for in sanctuaries throughout England from where they are successfully rehomed. Each trip managed by volunteers with ferry crossing and fuel costs Assisi £400. The young people of DICE as animal lovers want to raise money to save dogs lives and give them this “Chance of a lifetime” They want you to feel the same and come along to the fundraiser.

How are the young people of DICE going to raise the funds?

They are going to raise the funds by holding a fun filled sponsored walk and dog/ family fun day at Crawfordsburn Country Park on 27th August 2016.

Sponsored walk has a suggested donation of £5 and all other activities are donation based or have a small fee.

The day will begin with a sponsored walk. Registration and donation collections will be held at the welcome centre (Crawfordsburn Country Park) 11am – 11.30am. The 1- 2 mile walk will be through the beautiful country park.

When the walkers return to the welcome centre they will be rewarded with something nice and find the fun day has begun, (12pm – 2.30pm) DJ Mark will be playing music to entertain our ears. The dogs will have a chance to show off their talents and uniqueness through competitions such as Greedy chops, Catch, Most Fetching, Dogs got Talent, Fancy dress, Young trainer and many others. There will be sports day activities throughout the day for all the family including the dog. So if you want to test your balancing skills or see if your dog can help you burst more balloons than your opponent; this is the day for you. Assisi photographer will be there and offering you the chance to have a professional photograph of your dog and purchase the image immediately. Various sizes of photographs and keyrings are available, prices only £4-£8.

Other activities throughout the day include scavenger hunt, face painting, outdoor games and musical sit.

The young people promise that the day will be fun filled for all; while saving a dog’s life.
